Berks County Girl Joins Kidz Bop

Ahnya O'Riordan is from Exeter Township and is part of the band's new lineup.

The pop supergroup Kidz Bop has a new lineup — and an Exeter Township 12-year-old is one of the group’s new members.

Meet Ahnya O’Riordan. Thousands of kids auditioned to be part of the group, and she was one of six who were ultimately chosen. Her new bandmates are Cooper (age 13), Freddy (age 12), Isaiah (age 10), Julianna (age 11), and Sierra (age 12).

“I was so excited and was almost speechless on the phone,” Ahnya said about finding out she made the group. “The managers called me to tell me the big news. Our family celebrated that night with a special dinner and sparkling cider.”

The new Kidz Bop singers made their debut on Kidz Bop 34, released last week. The best-selling series has included 24 Top 10 debuts on the Billboard 200 Chart and over 17 million albums sold since the brand’s debut in 2001. Last year, Kidz Bop sold more albums than Nick Jonas, Katy Perry, Demi Lovato, Wiz Khalifa, Jason Derulo, and Rihanna combined. Ahnya’s favorite songs on the new album include covers of Bruno Mars’ “24K Magic” and “The Greatest” by Sia.

She and the other kids are currently working hard at rehearsals for the upcoming tour. “We’re announcing our tour and dates in February,” she said. “And we can’t wait for our fans to see it!”

Along with rehearsing, which includes vocal and dance practice throughout the day, the kids need to do schoolwork, just like other kids their age. “We do school online and we have two teachers who are on-site at all times to make sure we keep up with our school work,” Ahnya said.

When they have down time, they love to go to the mall or movies. “Sometimes, we even take day trips to Universal Studios! We all love to take part in special dance workshops in the area,” she said.

When Ahnya is at home, she enjoys visiting the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, and attending 76ers games. “We always end each trip with a stop at Pat’s Cheesesteaks,” she said.

Ahnya hopes to see her friends and family from Pennsylvania when the tour stops in our state. “I’m really excited to be on this amazing adventure with all of the new friends I’ve made with Kidz Bop! I can’t wait to share all of my experiences with everyone.”

Lately, Ahnya has been listening to a lot of music by Bruno Mars. “My favorite style of music is R&B and jazz, so I love John Legend and Adele. I’d love to sing any song by them,” she said.

Maybe she can make a few song suggestions for Kidz Bop 35. But for now, Ahnya just loves to be on stage singing and dancing.

“I just started writing my own lyrics and songs. My goal is to one day being a professional singer/songwriter,” she said. “My other goal is to be a family doctor. If I could do both, that would be epic.”
