Modern Circus Group Cirque Us! Hits Philly
The New England-based troupe is in Germantown July 12 and 13.
Move over Ringling Brothers: Cirque Us!, a modern circus group made up of 19- to 23-year-old acrobats, jugglers, and aerialists will perform in Philadelphia on July 12 and 13 at Funicular Station in Germantown.
Cirque Us! will present “DreamCycle” at 2 and 7 pm Wednesday and Thursday. “DreamCycle” reimagines traditional circus performances by introducing the audience to a dream world where acrobats, jugglers, and aerialists tiptoe between shadow and light and dreams and nightmares.
According to its website, the group’s mission is to keep “freedom” in their performances.
“The freedom to play, express ourselves, and to grow,” the group wrote. “To us, circus has no rules. It’s a place where we can be ourselves, work hard and have fun. All kids have dreams of running away with the circus. We’ve already achieved that dream. Now we have a new one. We dream of starting our own circus. Our own community that we can grow and turn into something we never thought could be possible.”
Cirque Us! is based in New England, and “DreamCycle” is the group’s first touring show. The tour consists of 30 shows in seven states. Tickets cost $15 for children and $18 for adults and may be purchased online or at the door.
Funicular Station is located at 416 W Coulter St., Philadelphia.
