Join in the Great American Backyard Campout

This nationwide event introduces families to tent-camping. Get in on the fun and get back to nature by attending one of these events.

On Saturday, June 23rd, The National Wildlife Foundation will host the Great American Backyard Campout–an event held annually to introduce families to camping and encourage people of all ages to get outside and enjoy nature.

This event is ideal for those who’ve been meaning to give camping a try. Most of the events have Scout groups or community volunteers who will show you how to set up your tent, start and maintain a campfire safely, and even lead you on hikes, tree identification outings, and sing-alongs.

If the idea of camping in a group, or where there may not be the conveniences you are used to, doesn’t appeal to you, The National Wildlife Foundation encourages participants to set up a tent in their own backyard. The end goal is simply to try it, to enjoy nature, and to be together.
