Citizen Science Lab

February 10—11, 11 am, 1 pm, and 3:30 pm

Independence Seaport Museum, 211 S. Columbus Blvd., Philadelphia

 

The museum will host hands-on, interactive experiences centered around water, with a focus on the Delaware River’s biology, ecology and chemistry, plus language arts, history and basic engineering.

 Historical Watercolor Painting Demonstrations

February 10 — 11, 11 am — 5 pm

Museum of the American Revolution, 101 S. Third St., Philadelphia

 

Join a costumed interpreter at his easel in Patriots Gallery for demonstrations of watercolor techniques mastered by artists during the Revolutionary War. Ask about the colors and tools in his watercolor box to inspire your own landscape drawing. Nearby, play a game of I-Spy-in-the-Watercolor, matching historical reproduction objects with similar items that L’Enfant saw at Verplanck’s Point, New York—the scene for the centerpiece of the Museum’s special exhibit, “Among His Troops.”

Super Bowl Champions Weekend

Please Touch Museum, 4231 Avenue of the Republic, Philadelphia

 

Celebrate the Eagles’ Super Bowl victory all weekend at Please Touch Museum! First, you’ll get a free soft pretzel at the admissions desk upon check-in, and if you wear Eagles gear, you get a free carousel ride. The event includes a pop-up play corner with dress-up and props, a pep rally hosted by DJ Wiggles, art projects like painting with clothespins and creating cards to congratulate the Eagles on their win, and finally a Super Bowl Victory Parade to close out the day with cheers and movement. Plus, on Sunday afternoon, Sid the Science Kid will be there for meet-and-greets at noon and 2 pm (and you can check out his new exhibit while you’re there).

 ‘Stinky Kids: The Musical’

February 9 — 11

Walnut Street Theatre, 825 Walnut St., Philadelphia

 

Based on the children’s book series by Britt Menzies, this musical is fun, colorful, and only an hour long, so it’s great for kids of all ages. Watch along as Britt and her friends get into mischief that turns a simple problem into mayhem, and learn a little about friendship along the way.

Camp-in

The Franklin Institute, 222 N. 20th St., Philadelphia

 

Kids ages 6-13 (and their chaperones) can spend an overnight at the museum with live science shows, hands-on workshops, IMAX and Planetarium shows, stargazing in the rooftop observatory, and time to explore the entire museum. Sleep somewhere unique like near the Giant Heart or in the train room, then wake up for breakfast at the museum.

Night in the Museum with Special Guest Star: Crocs

February 10, 6:30pm — February 11, 9 am

Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, 1900 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia

 

Pick your sleeping spot next to lions, tigers, or dinosaurs! Go on a scavenger hunt, do a hands-on experiment, watch a live animal show, eat treats, and get a chance to see what the special stars of the museum’s new special exhibit, “Crocs,” are up to after the sun goes down. Wake up to a light breakfast and another whole day to explore the museum.

‘Mr. Popper’s Penguins’

With original songs and performing penguin puppets, this delightful, action packed musical adaptation of Richard and Florence Atwater’s popular children’s book is sure to delight.

Macy’s Family Fun Day at the African American Museum in Philadelphia

February 10, 11 am –3pm

701 Arch St., Philadelphia

 

Celebrate Black History Month with free admission (for the first 250 people) and interactive arts workshops for kids age 5 and up. There will be a historical reenactment of Noah Lewis at 11, followed by a drum workshop at noon, and finally an art workshop at 1:30 pm.

Storytime Yoga for Preschoolers

Second Saturdays at the Penn Museum: The Olympics

Learn about the ancient Olympics at the Penn Museum through a special tour, play games in the galleries, make a special craft, and pick up a scavenger hunt that will challenge you to take a closer look at many objects in the galleries.

Family Cooking: Tiny Treats with BIG FLAVOR

Free Library of Philadelphia, Parkway Central Branch, 1901 Vine St., Philadelphia

 

In this interactive workshop, parents and caregivers with children ages 5-12 will have the opportunity to create tiny treats that are big on flavor. Inspired by the Free Library’s current exhibition, “Big and Small: Books for All”, participants will roll up their sleeves and make mini cupcakes and bite-sized energy circles that are filled with delicious, exciting ingredients. Then package the treats, so they’ll be ready to share with someone special for Valentine’s Day. Pre-registration is required.

Singing City

Enjoy a free choral performance by Singing City. Join an audience-participation song and meet the performers at a short reception afterwards.

Wagner’s Winter Wonderland: The Ice Age

Come for an educational afternoon of hands-on Ice Age themed activities, scavenger hunts of the museum, and demonstrations that will teach you more about this fascinating period of Earth’s history. Activities are geared towards kids ages 6-12, but all ages can enjoy this event.

Family Gardening Workshop: Valentine Flowers to Wear

Lunar New Year at the Franklin Institute

Drop-In Baby Bubbles Swim Class

The hour-long drop-in class, open to little ones aged five months to three years, incorporates techniques to teach children how to feel comfortable and move their bodies in the water, helping them build confidence while exploring new surroundings in a safe, fun and supervised setting. Celebrate the Eagles’ Super Bowl Victory at LEGOLAND

Check out the LEGO Lombardi Trophy for a photo-op! The celebration continues through Sunday with a recreated Eagles parade in MINILAND Philadelphia and themed builds in the Creative Workshop next to the LEGO Lombardi Trophy. Guests can show their Eagles pride and wear green to receive a discount on tickets at the door.

Kennett Square’s Chocolate Lover’s Festival

Hundreds of chocolate treats, including cakes, brownies, candies, cookies and cupcakes, will be available for attendees to taste at this festival benefiting the United Way of Southern Chester County. New this year is a Kiddie Korner with cookie decorating, crafts, and photos with fun characters.

Concert and Valentine’s Make-and-Takes

February 11, 11 am —1 pm

At 11 am there will be a live concert by Mama Mac and Chana Rothman. Then at noon, make a valentine for someone special with Sky Soup Art Center.
