If you home school your kids — or are thinking about trying it — you’ll want to attend an upcoming event from Classical Conversations, Inc., a home schooling organization.
The three-day event on May 16 — 18 in King of Prussia is open to families who currently home school, as well as those still exploring and researching the possibility.
This year’s theme is “Unlocking Grammar — The Art of Language.” During the three days, families will gather to delve into grammar, the first stage of the Classical model of home schooling.
Encouragement, inspiration, and information about language development — the importance of understanding language at a grammatical level, and how to help kids do the same from early childhood through high school — will be offered.
Sierra Rix, a Penn Valley mom of seven who has been home schooling for seven years, wants parents to know there are educational alternatives. As the Eastern Pennsylvania Support Representative for Classical Conversations, Inc., and a key organizer of the event, Rix said she home-schools for many reasons, including the ability to customize each child’s curriculum and learning path.
“By home schooling my kids, each one is challenged and supported exactly as they need,” she said. “I love choosing the books and methods that work best.”
This year’s speaker is Christa Dittmar. Currently in her eighteenth year of home schooling her eight children, Dittmar wants to mentor both parents and children in their home schooling journey.
According to the event information page, “Christa is passionate about facilitating interesting discussion and encouraging young people.”
While parents attend various breakout sessions, children can participate in academic camps. Play Camp, GeoDraw Camp, and Classically Taught Trigonometry Camp are among the highlights. The cost of camp is $42 per child. Teens can attend for free by registering to be a helper.
All attendees must register for the event..
The event is from 9 am — 4 pm May 16 — 18, at at the King of Prussia Church of Christ, 590 West Valley Forge Road, King of Prussia. Lunch will be available for purchase.
