Get to Know Us at Curl
When everyone else was flat-ironing hair their clients’ hair or using harsh relaxers to remove volume, frizz, and curl, Teresa Badolato, owner of Curl, was sending her clients off with soft, voluminous, frizz-free curls — the kind of curls that get you stopped on the street.
And that was before Teresa discovered DevaCurl!
In 2004, Teresa travelled to New York to study with curl guru Loraine Massey, founder of DevaCurl, and fell in love with the DevaCurl philosophy. Since, her mission has been to help her clients become curlfriends with their locks!
Still working for others, Teresa focused her energy on perfecting dry cutting and coloring with the DevaCurl technique and philosophy. This philosophy Teresa discovered isn’t just for curly hair but for anyone with texture or frizz. And she bided her time, knowing she wanted to open her own salon, which would specialize in textured hair.
Her mantra became, “embrace your natural curl.”
Last year, Teresa realized her vision, opening Curl Hair and Wellness on a busy stretch of Lancaster Avenue surrounded by chic boutiques. In this airy studio with huge windows, an endless stream of coffee and tea — and even its own curly-haired salon pooch — all of the DevaCurl trained stylists counsel clients about how to embrace their curls, providing hands on lessons. They even follow up via email with a Curl Handbook written by Teresa, for caring for your curls at home. Every haircut is a chance to get to know their curls better, and the salon regularly hosts special workshops for clients.
Wavy, curly and the “I don’t have wavy/curly hair, it’s frizz” girls from across the region have flocked to Curl to see what this is about, and so have stylists eager to learn the DevaCurl technique, because DevaCurl has tapped Teresa as a training center for stylists.
In just one year, the salon has expanded from one to three fully-trained DevaCurl stylists — Sammy Aronchick, Deena Vecchio, and Tori Stanton — all of whom are overseen by Teresa’s expert eye.
