Meet Julia at Sesame Place Variety Day

The April 22 Variety Day event for kids with disabilities and their families will feature the show's newest Muppet and a sensory-friendly environment.

Sesame Street just debuted a new character — a little girl named Julia, who has autism. On April 22, she’ll make a special stop at Sesame Place in Langhorne, for Variety Day.

Each year, the park joins forces with Variety — The Children’s Charity of the Delaware Valley to sponsor a free day at Sesame Place for children with disabilities and their families.

The April 22 event will run from 11 am — 5 pm and feature special accommodations for children on the autism spectrum, including designated quiet areas, sensory-friendly shows, and volume adjustments throughout the park, according to a Sesame Place press release. There will also be a resource fair during the day, to give families a chance to explore local options and connect with one another.

Julia, introduced as a digital character last year, arrived on Sesame Street April 10 as an old friend of Elmo who has a close relationship with the fuzzy favorite. (Click here to see her in action.) Her character is part of a larger Sesame Workshop project to promote autism awareness and offer educational resources for kids on the spectrum and their parents. Click here to see some of the offerings, including videos for kids and parents, daily routine cards, and a story book.  There’s also an app, now available from Amazon.

Julia will be walking around the park all day, and will also be available for meet-and-greet interactions with kids. Guests at the Sesame Place event will get a free copy of that storybook about Julia, called, We’re Amazing, 1,2,3!

Families that want to attend should register through Variety. (Click here to learn more.) Tickets are free for up to six people, and parking is $25 per car, with a portion of that going to Variety.

Sesame Place is at 100 Sesame Road, Langhorne. It opens to the public for the 2017 season April 29.
