How to Celebrate National Ice Cream Day in Philly
Chill out and celebrate this sweet treat.
It’s time to celebrate the ultimate summer treat: ice cream. National Ice Cream Day falls on Sunday, July 16 and ice cream shops around the city are getting in on the fun by offering free scoops, events, and more. Here is how you should celebrate National Ice Cream Day in Philadelphia.
26th and Filbert streets, Philadelphia
The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society is teaming up with Whole Foods Market to hand out free mochi ice cream at the pop-up garden at uCity Square. The colorful ice cream balls are wrapped with mochi, a Japanese rice cake.
The garden opens at noon and the mochi ice cream will be available while supplies last.

Celebrate National Ice Cream Day at the Please Touch Museum with free birthday cake ice cream sundaes and other themed activities. From 11 am to 4 pm, kids can drop in to fill out an ice cream-themed worksheet that doubles as a coupon for a cup or cone at the Bassetts Ice Cream Stand in Reading Terminal Market. From noon to 1 pm and 2 to 3 pm, kids can go inside a real ice cream truck outside the museum. Other activities, like a film about the history of Reading Terminal Market and its ice cream stand, arts and crafts, and storytime, will occur throughout the day.
Ice cream will be served at the museum from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm, while supplies last.

McDonald’s locations are offering free vanilla cones on National Ice Cream Day for customers with the McDonald’s app, available in the App Store and on Google Play. All customers have to do is download the app and redeem the free cone deal. One participant who redeems the deal between 2 and 5 pm will win free soft serve for life at the fast food chain.
