How to Celebrate National Ice Cream Day in Philly

Chill out and celebrate this sweet treat.

It’s time to celebrate the ultimate summer treat: ice cream. National Ice Cream Day falls on Sunday, July 16 and ice cream shops around the city are getting in on the fun by offering free scoops, events, and more. Here is how you should celebrate National Ice Cream Day in Philadelphia.

Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Pop Up Garden at uCity Square

26th and Filbert streets, Philadelphia

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society is teaming up with Whole Foods Market to hand out free mochi ice cream at the pop-up garden at uCity Square. The colorful ice cream balls are wrapped with mochi, a Japanese rice cake.

The garden opens at noon and the mochi ice cream will be available while supplies last.

Please Touch Museum

4231 Avenue of the Republic, Philadelphia, 19131

Celebrate National Ice Cream Day at the Please Touch Museum with free birthday cake ice cream sundaes and other themed activities. From 11 am to 4 pm, kids can drop in to fill out an ice cream-themed worksheet that doubles as a coupon for a cup or cone at the Bassetts Ice Cream Stand in Reading Terminal Market. From noon to 1 pm and 2 to 3 pm, kids can go inside a real ice cream truck outside the museum. Other activities, like a film about the history of Reading Terminal Market and its ice cream stand, arts and crafts, and storytime, will occur throughout the day.

Ice cream will be served at the museum from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm, while supplies last.
