Philly Schools Sponsor Family Reading Festival Thursday

Join the superintendent, the mayor, and Clifford the Big Red Dog at this reading-themed event.

The School District of Philadelphia will host a family reading festival at Abraham Lincoln High School on Thursday, May 11.

The event, from 5 — 8 pm, will feature giveaways, food, workshops, and poetry readings, according to a press release from the district. It’s happening in partnership with Scholastic and Read by 4th, a local organization led by the Free Library of Philadelphia that promotes reading skills for young children.

Schools superintendent William Hite, Mayor Jim Kenney, and other school and city officials will be at the event. So will Byron Garrett, the author of the book The ABCs of Life and the head of the National Family Engagement Alliance. He’ll be speaking and offering tips for families. Clifford the Big Red Dog will be making an appearance, too.

Abraham Lincoln High School is at 3201 Ryan Ave. in Northeast Philadelphia.
