Smith Memorial Playground Kicks Off Spring With Play-a-Palooza

Welcome spring with outdoor play, crafts, performances, PBS Kids, and so much more!

Welcome spring this Saturday, as Smith Memorial Playground kicks off the season at the annual Play-a-Palooza. Fairmount Park’s 6.5-acre playground’s grand opening party will take place from noon – 4 pm March 31, and will include lots of exciting activities, giveaways, performances, and more.

“Although we have begun to keep the playground open year-round in 2018, Play-a-Palooza marks the official start of our playground season, which includes access to the giant wooden slide and extended spring and summer visiting hours,” said Smith’s Executive Director, Meg Wise.

In addition to a full afternoon of outdoor play and adventure, there will also be a variety of nature play activities, arts and crafts, and games from Audubon Pennsylvania, Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center, Kith + Kin, Let’s Go Outdoors, Northeast Treatment Centers, Outward Bound, Parent-Child Home Program, Public Health Management Corporation, Read by 4th, Soccer Shots, and Tinkergarten. Snacks will be provided by Herr’s as well.

In a new addition, Play-a-Palooza will also include a special PBS Kids tent on Smith’s front lawn featuring appearances by Nature Cat, special giveaways, and games, in partnership with the Elmwood Park Zoo and the Goddard School.

Finally, families can enjoy live performances all afternoon by All Around the World Music, Philadelphia School for the Circus Arts, Project Capoeira, and local children’s choirs.

Play-a-Palooza will be held on Saturday, March 31 from noon to 4 pm. Tickets are $10 per child, and free for Smith members and ACCESS cardholders.

Smith Memorial Playground and Playhouse is in Fairmount Park, at 3500 Reservoir Drive in Philadelphia.
