Welcome Spring at Smith’s Play-a-Palooza
Shake off winter and get back to the wooden slide at this fun event Saturday.
As winter turns to spring, Smith Memorial Playground and Playhouse is getting ready to welcome the new season. The Fairmount Park venue will start its new season with Play-a-Palooza, a grand opening party on Saturday, March 25. It’s a sneak peek at the new season for the Philly kids’ favorite — the playground reopens April 1.
From noon to 4 pm, kids can frolic on the 6.5-acre playground and enjoy a wide variety of activities, including crafts and carnival games. Smith has lined up a long list of sponsors and participants in the event, including Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture, the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Art Splash program, the National Audubon Society, the Philadelphia Parks and Recreation department’s Grow Up Green program, The Hacktory, Let’s Go Outdoors, Northeast Treatment Centers, Philly Tutors, READ by 4th, Soccer Shots, So Love Autistic Center, Tinkergarten, and the Free Library of Philadelphia’s Words at Play program.
There will be snacks, too, from Costco, Herr’s, and Wawa.
This annual celebration of play is a preview of the playground’s official opening day. Starting April 1, the playground will be open from 10 am — 6 pm from Tuesday to Friday and 10 am — 7 pm on the weekends. The playhouse hours will be from 10 am — 4 pm Tuesday through Friday, and 10 am — 6 pm on the weekends.
Click here for tickets; the event is free for members, but you still need a ticket. For non-non-members, it’s $10 per child (adults are free).
Other upcoming events include Science Story Time on April 26 and the Party in the Playground fundraiser on May 18. The three Kidchella music festivals are set for June 16, July 21 and August 18.
