Now Playing: ‘The Song of Silence’
The original musical is playing February 22-24 in Manayunk.
It’s time for a new Winter Sort of Thing show from Yes, and…Collaborative Arts. This year’s original musical, The Song of Silence, is about a town where music and art have been forgotten in the decades after the town erects a wall to keep the outside world away. How do you perform a musical about that? You’ll have to see the show to find out!
The show, written by Brooke Sexton with the students in the Germantown program’s Winter Sort of Thing class, is sure to be silly and fun.
Yes, and…Collaborative Arts works with Philly kids to build confidence and resilience through collaboration. It’s a theater program — the group runs classes and summer camps — but kids who spend years there describe their experience as far more than learning to sing, act, and dance.
Winter Sort of Thing is a chance for students to collaborate with professional actors, directors, and choreographers to create an original musical, then show off what they’ve done. (There’s a similar summer program.)
The Song of Silence will play at the Venice Island Performing Arts Center at 7 pm on February 22, 23, and 24, and 1 pm on February 24 (there’s no Sunday show this year). Advance tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for kids 12 and under and seniors; it’s $2 more at the door. Same-day rush tickets are $5 with a high school or college ID, if available.
